Currents Magazine Talks To Joe Sernio -
August/September Issue 2008
Jersey City native, Joe currently resides in Belmar and has
lived in Howell and Jackson. He started attending acting
school in 2002 while working for Marc Echo (the hip hop
clothing line inspired by "50 Cent") in New York. He
attended the Ted Bardy Studio for Dramatic Arts and then
went on to study under various private coaches including Bob
McAndrew, who has coached actors like Christopher Walken,
Sela Ward, Richard Dreyfuss, and Tom Selleck to name a few.
Joe's inspiration is his Father, who passed away in 2002.
"He never saw anything I did as far as acting goes, but he
highly believed in following your dreams no matter what it
takes" says Sernio. "Now I have my Mom's full support and
she pushes me to do more and more with acting and not give
up."
Joe credits his mentors and friends Kevin Interdonato; the
late Carroll Raver (father of actress Kimberly Raver and
husband of Diane Raver of The Garden State Film Festival);
Vinny Vella (of Sopranos fame). "If Vinny's wife isn't
feeding me, he is teaching me."
Here is an excerpt taken from an article written by Evelyn
Bonilla and published in The Riverview Observer this summer:
Sernio and Knight are magnetic in this suspense thriller
(The Roadhouse) that displays the frayed nerves of a failing
relationship. Sernio, a very talented actor (who will soon
be seen on Court TV's Haunting Evidence in Fall 2008). He has also appeared on several popular
television shows like, CBS' Love Monkey, ABC's Hope and
Faith and his latest project, commencing work on the CBS'
daytime soap, As the World Turns. He has also acted in
several short dramatic independent films such as Repetition
of Change (Lightning Films) and is well known at the Jersey
Shore as Bentley Diamond Importers, "The Bentley Guy", where
he has played, in print and on TV, the guy about to "pop the
question" for the prestigious diamond retailer. These are
just some of the projects that Sernio is involved in. This
dynamic actor is known among many as an "actor who knows how
to bring true emotion on to the screen." And that's one
thing he does effortlessly.
